You can measure your stairs yourself using the guide below. If you’re unsure, send us a picture of your stairs at info@rainbowhome.co.uk, and we can advise.
1. Measure a Single Step
- Measure the tread (flat part you step on).
- Measure the riser (vertical part).
- Add these together to get the total length of one step.
2. Count the Steps
- Include all steps, including the top landing.
3. Calculate the Total Length
- Multiply the length of a single step by the number of stairs.
- If steps vary in size, measure each one separately and add them up.
- Example: If the tread is 12 cm and the riser is 12 cm, each step is 24 cm. For 10 steps, the total length is 240 cm.
4. Add Extra Length
- Add at least 10 cm for waste.
- If your steps have an overhang (nose), include this in your measurements.
5. Measure the Width
- Measure from wall to rail to determine the width of one step.
